Greeting from Lecturer Takafumi Tanei.
I realized that about 20 years have passed since I became a doctor.
After working at the Toyohashi Municipal Hospital, Nagoya University Hospital, Nagoya Central Hospital, and Komaki City Hospital, I was fortunate enough to once again be assigned to Nagoya University Hospital starting April 2022.
While my primary work was in surgical treatment for brain strokes and severe head injuries, I have also been involved in the treatment of intractable pain.
Having spent over 10 years treating intractable pain, I have become painfully aware that there are limitations when it comes to treatment for neurosurgery alone.
Pain becomes intractable due to a complex combination of various factors.
Therefore, in order to enhance the therapeutic effect of intractable pain treatment, it is important that clinical departments (anesthesiology, orthopedics, rehabilitation, psychiatry, neurosurgery, etc.) and professions related to these factors collaborate across disciplines and treat each patient as a team. Pain is the root cause of human suffering and we recognize that alleviating pain is one of the most important tasks for a doctor.
This time, I have been given the opportunity to work at Nagoya University Hospital; a large hospital with a high level of expertise.
I believe that my mission is to deepen my expertise in intractable pain and build a system that can provide more comprehensive and multidisciplinary ways of treatment. I will do my best to alleviate the suffering of patients struggling with intractable pain as much as possible.
